ThemeLounge #63 – Know

Surprise Inside!Remember Cracker Jack, and the surprise inside? Well, this episode is like a box of Cracker Jack, because inside – okay, at the end – you’ll find the surprise I’ve been promising you for the last few shows. But don’t just skip ahead to the end, because there’s a bunch of great music you need to hear first, all of it centered around the Know theme. I just Know you’re gonna love every song.

Surprise Inside!
The Official ThemeLounge
Hedgehog Mascot!

I apologize in advance for the show running a bit long. I really didn’t expect that it would end up being the length it did, but I do think the surprise is worth it. And considering that you get to enjoy a bunch of sweet tunes by Dionne Farris, Blind Pilot, Kenny Loggins, Nirvana and more, I’m hoping you’ll agree. There’s just so much fun in store for this episode and beyond!

Which brings us to our next episode, where we return to our occasional explorations of colors. For the next show we’ll be looking at Black. So many possibilities here, and we just bet you’ve got a song or two coming to mind right now. We hope you’ll let us know! All you do is either send e-mail to the address shown at right, post a comment here on the blog, or hit the “Call Me!” button at right to leave us a message!

ThemeLounge #62 – Hey

Hey, did your teacher ever tell you, “Hay is for horses?” What was that all about? I mean, aren’t teachers supposed to tell you stuff you don’t know? Anyway, this is the Hey show, and we’ve put together some songs that’ll make you stand up and say, “Hey, this is great music!”

I hope you enjoy the show; it was assembled with valuable input from several listeners, and that is just great participation to have. I’m happy that it mixes a bunch of different styles, featuring tunes from Steely Dan, Fountains Of Wayne, The Pixies and many others. And then of course there’s an Alex Segment From Yesteryear that finds us relaxing by the riverside, with my son chatting halfheartedly (I think he wanted to return to his tanning pursuits).

And now, having said Hey way too many times in one hour, it’s time to plan for our next show. The theme for that one will be Know, and I just, er…Know that you’ve got a song or two that would be perfect. So tell us! All you gotta do is either send e-mail to the address shown at right, post a comment here on the blog, or hit the “Call Me!” button at right to leave us a message!

Look on the right-hand side of the page – we now have pretty buttons for our Facebook page and our Twitter account! Please like and follow, and please be sure to share ThemeLounge with your friends! We’d love to get as many people as possible listening and participating! See you next episode!

ThemeLounge #61 – Cry

Well, I sure wouldn’t blame any of you who were wondering if we would really show up here again with the next episode; I admit that our track record has not been stellar. But breathe easy, because here we are with Show #61 – and in light of this show’s Cry theme, perhaps you’d like to weep a few tears of joy. I’ll give you a moment.

I sure hope you enjoy this show. I put a lot of thought into each selection (I really need to relax), and I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s a nice mix of styles, featuring songs by Godley & Creme, Marty Stuart & Steve Earle, Stevie Ray Vaughan and others. Toward the end you’ll hear another “lost” segment with Alex from 2009. These older segments with my ever-fascinating son are providing me with some great flashbacks.

And hey! With this latest show in the can, it’s time to start preparing for the next one. And what the hey – we figured we’d go with the theme of Hey! We’ve already got some great Hey songs in mind, but if you can think of some, why not send us a request? It’s easy – just send e-mail to the address shown at right, post a comment here on the blog, or hit the “Call Me!” button at right to leave us a message!

I promise I’ll have a button set up on the site soon, but in the meantime, please visit the brand-new ThemeLounge page on Facebook! Be sure to click “Like” and definitely share the page with all your friends! Let’s build that audience!

ThemeLounge #60 – Open

Um…hello again. After an almost three-year hiatus, I’m very pleased to say that ThemeLounge is back! There’s plenty of apologizing and explaining to do, but why take up space here when you can just listen to the show and enjoy my whining in full 16-bit stereo?

We’re picking up where we left off: at Show #60, which is the Open show. I sure didn’t plan it this way, but this theme serves as a nice opportunity to say that ThemeLounge is Open for business once again! I had fun picking out some sweet tunes for this show, and I hope you enjoy the selections from Gotye, John Hiatt, Santana, Snow Patrol and more.

This will be explained in the show, but be forewarned that the conversation with Alex is a “lost” recording that we did waaaaaay back in 2009. So chronologically, everything’s out of whack; but it’s still a good segment and I couldn’t stand to let this one and a few others just molder away without ever seeing the light of day. After I’ve produced new shows with the remaining “lost” Alex segments, I’ll have a cool surprise for you.

But on to the next show – yes, really! There’ll be another one after this! I’m sure some of you more dedicated ThemeLounge fans are weeping tears of joy over the show’s return, so it seems appropriate that the next episode’s theme will be Cry. I would love to get the ol’ request machine humming again, so if you’ve got any song ideas for the Cry show, I sure hope you’ll send ‘em our way: Send e-mail to the address shown at right, post a comment here on the blog, or hit the “Call Me!” button at right to leave us a message!

Ooh – before I forget, please visit the brand-new ThemeLounge page on Facebook! Be sure to click “Like” and definitely share the page with all your friends!

THANK YOU FOR LISTENING!

ThemeLounge #59 – Bad

Hi there! Well, it sure is nice of you to come back to ThemeLounge after we ignored you for so long. Sorry for behaving so badly, but we got caught up in a bunch of other stuff and before we knew it, nearly two months had gotten away from us! But we’re back just like we promised, and I’m hopeful that we’ll be able to avoid such a bad delay for Show #60.

Anyway, in case you hadn’t guessed yet, this is the Bad show, and it turns out to be a good opportunity for you to hear some great music! In this episode you’ll hear songs from Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, the Jayhawks, NRBQ, Sublime and more.

One note about this show: the segment with Alex was recorded a few weeks ago, so the references to various end-of-senior-year activities are a bit out of sync. He has already graduated, folks, and we couldn’t be more proud!

Interestingly, one of the qualities that Alex’s high school aims to instill in its graduates is being open to growth. And of course, Alex’s matriculation means that a whole new world will be opening up to him. How fitting, then, that the theme of our next episode, Show #60, will be Open!. Think you know some songs that might fit? Please send your suggestions via e-mail to the address shown at right, post a comment here on the blog, or hit the “Call Me!” button at right to leave us a message! Thanks for listening, and tell your friends!
